The 2009 Barbaresco Tre Stelle jumps from the glass with juicy dark cherries, tobacco, licorice and leather. This super classic Barbaresco possesses gorgeous depth and radiance in a medium to full-bodied style that is highly appealing. Layers of fruit build to a round, supple finish supported by classic, old-style Nebbiolo tannins. This is a fabulous showing. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024+. Proprietress Giovanna Rizzolio has done a great job with her 2009s. Cascina delle Rose remains one of the most under-the-radar estates in Barbaresco, although my sense is that won’t be the case too much longer.
