The 2007 Sagrantino di Montefalco 25 Anni is an extreme wine in this vintage. In fact, I am not sure it is meaningfully better or more complex than the Collepiano. The wine needs several hours to be the slightest bit approachable. Firm, huge tannins assault the palate in this massively concentrated Sagrantino. Layers of tar, licorice and leather add a measure of detail to this hulking 25 Anni. The 2007 will require considerable bottle age to soften. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.
