Bodegas Nekeas's red wines were very promising, especially given the fact that these wines are priced low and made from young vines. The 1996 Tempranillo is a super value. It exhibits an opaque purple color, as well as a beautiful yet uncomplicated bouquet of jammy cassis and cherries. There are gobs of fruit, high extraction, a pure, one-dimensional, but concentrated palate, enough acidity for up-lift, surprising fat and flesh, and a fresh finish. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
