The 2005 Pinot Noir “Temperance Hill Vineyard” comes from the coolest site sourced by Vlossak. Dark ruby-colored, it displays an excellent bouquet of spice box, lilac, lavender, raspberry and a hint of rhubarb. On the palate it reveals the characteristic profile of 2005, elevated acidity and a firm structure. In this case, the acidity provides lift and the band of ripe, sweet fruit is wide enough to conceal the tannins. It will develop for several years and provide pleasure through 2025.
Owner/winemaker Mark Vlossak operates his winery out of an industrial park in Salem. He sources from some of the finest sites in the Willamette Valley, turning out flavorful Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, selling them at remarkably fair prices. Check out St.-Innocent’s website for Vlossak’s harvest reports to get the lowdown on recent vintages and to see how a skilled winemaker adapts to the varied conditions presented by the region’s fickle weather.
