The 1994 Pinot Noir Temperance Hill Vineyard (1.1 tons per acre and a microscopic 109 cases) reveals a flamboyant, spicy, rich, black-cherry, smoky, bacon fat-scented bouquet, long, rich, expansive, full-bodied flavors, outstanding purity, and a structured but fleshy, rich finish. This superb Pinot Noir is just beginning to open. In a blind tasting, it could easily pass for a top premier or grand cru from Vosne-Romanee. This beauty will be hard to resist, but try and hold back a few bottles for drinking at the turn of the century. Gorgeous!
Winemaker/proprietor Mark Volossak has turned in four superlative efforts in 1994. Only the Temperance Hill and O'Connor Vineyard have been released. The Seven Springs and Freedom Hill will be released in September. They are all gorgeously constructed Pinot Noirs with slight personality variations. Kudos to St. Innocent, which has had an enviable track record over the last few years.
