The 2005 Reserva is, despite only a year’s difference, far fresher than the 2004, also revisited this issue. Powerful and pointed, it seems a touch clumsy at times, though, and at this point I have some concerns over its balance. There is also a certain roasted note to it, and in that regard, I have had some disappointing experiences with other hard edged 2005s of late, not just here. Still, this still has some opportunity to pull itself together and improve. I have not given up on it by any means, but I’m no longer quite as sure I’d bet on it. It needs to integrate the tannins, come into balance and become more expressive. Drink now-2018. The Reserva vertical was poured at the winery in Alentejo. Admittedly, this was a somewhat disappointing vertical as the promise shown by the earlier vintages was not fulfilled. For the older wines, it raised more questions than answers. The good news is that the new vintages seem to have regrouped and they showed both more elegance and better balance.Importers: Vinum Importing, Redmond, WA; tel.
