Some of the best news coming out of central Italy in recent years is the comeback which is being staged by Lungarotti, an important player in the 1970s and 1980s before a period of drift set in. The 2000 wines are the best since 1985, and the 2001 vintage promises to be even better, as the 2001 Rubesco, the regular bottling, indicates in its fresh and elegant aromas of red berry fruit, fine continuity and length on the palate, and ripe, savory flavors.
