Consistently open-knit, soft, and pleasant, but essentially one-dimensional and monochromatic, the 1995 Phelan-Segur offers enjoyable fruit in the nose, but it lacks the depth and richness of other top vintages of this well-placed St.-Estephe cru bourgeois. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005.

Lovely balance to this wine, with fruit and tannins in the right proportion. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a fruity aftertaste. Best after 2000. -JS
