Here's a statement wine from Podere Brizio. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is certified organic (although some of that goodwill is surrendered to the heavy and environmentally unfriendly glass bottle used in the packaging). This expression from a classic vintage takes a little longer to open and come into view. With some patience, you get wild berry aromas with grilled herb and pressed flowers. The finish is lean, polished and smooth. However, this wine never fully blossoms in the glass, and the mouthfeel is shy or subdued, especially within the context of the growing season. Maybe more bottle aging will help bring out more intensity in this 6,000-bottle release.

A fluid style, exhibiting cherry, strawberry, currant, orange peel and leafy underbrush flavors. This has a sleek frame fused to dense, chalky tannins, with a finish that echoes the red fruit and underbrush notes.
