The 2001 Pinot Noir La Rinconada Vineyard’s dark saturated purple color is accompanied by painfully high acidity that makes the wine virtually impossible to appreciate. There is plenty going on, but the acids rarely change, so this offering will only be enjoyed by acid freaks. An interesting Pinot, although it’s young, in terms of both vine and bottle age. Seems like a work in progress, with its lush, ripe black cherry flavors and wonderfully crisp acidity. Well oaked, too. But the tannins are tough and astringent. ——S.H.(3/1/2004)—— 88
