Made from a vineyard situated just outside Chateau Beaucastel's border, in a sector known as Coudoulet, the white wine offers convincing evidence of the heights that can be achieved in the southern Rhone. Similar in style to the 1995, the 1994 Cotes du Rhone Blanc reveals good fat and ripeness, as well as an opulent, unctuous texture. The nose has begun to shut down, so it is less expressive than the 1995. Nevertheless, it is a full-bodied, powerful, Viognier-dominated wine that should drink well for 3-4 years, possibly longer. This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996.Coudoulet de Beaucastel has always been one of the finest Cotes du Rhone wines, and the estate's producers, Francois and Jean-Pierre Perrin, have continued to up-grade the quality.Importer: Vineyard Brands, Chester, VT; tel.
