The bevy of white wine offerings from Chateau Beaucastel is impressive. Coudoulet's 1996 Cotes du Rhone Blanc, with 30% Viognier in the blend, is a nicely-textured, round, richly fruity wine with evidence of toasty new oak, but the dominant characteristic is Viognier's honeysuckle/apricot-like fruit. In addition to the Viognier, most vintages include 30% Bourboulenc, 30% Marsanne, and 10% Clairette. The 1996 exhibits fine texture, without the annoyingly high acidity found in many wines of this vintage. It will drink well for several more years.Importer: Vineyard Brands, Chester, VT; tel.
