Made from a vineyard situated just outside Chateau Beaucastel's border, in a sector known as Coudoulet, the white wine offers convincing evidence of the heights that can be achieved in the southern Rhone. Made from a blend of 30% Viognier, 30% Marsanne, 30% Bourboulenc, and 10% Clairette, the 1995 Cotes du Rhone Blanc is rich and concentrated, with the apricot/peach-like fragrance of the Viognier dominating the wine's personality. It is low in acidity, and thus comes across as sumptuous, rich, and chewy. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996.
Coudoulet de Beaucastel has always been one of the finest Cotes du Rhone wines, and the estate's producers, Francois and Jean-Pierre Perrin, have continued to up-grade the quality.
