Ogier has added a new wine that I reviewed last year, L’Ame Soeur, 100% Syrah from a vineyard in Seyssuel, not far from Cote Rotie. It is, as he calls it, a “feminine style” not dissimilar from the Cote Blonde Cote Roties from his home turf. The 2004 is a pretty wine aged in a combination of new and old oak. It reveals beautiful bacon fat, sweet cherry and cassis notes, and silky tannins. it should be drunk over the next 2-3 years. The Ogiers are a wonderful family, and it’s gratifying to see the extraordinary quality of wine that continues to emerge from them. The son Stephane has taken over fully from his dad, who seems to be inching into full retirement, and continues to push the estate to higher and higher levels of quality.Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel.
