This traditional bodega in the Rioja Alta owns 100 acres of vineyards, and supplements the estate-produced fruit with purchased grapes. The 1996 Rosado is an example of a traditionally made, old style rose that is reminiscent of traditionally vinified Tavels from the southern Rhone Valley. Muga's orange to pinkish/salmon-colored rose is a full-bodied wine that has been fermented in old oak foudres, and put through a full malolactic fermentation. Rich, full, intense, dry, and austere, it is an uncompromising, flavorful, serious rose. It should drink well for another 1-2 years.
