The 2004 Pergolaia is a soft, supple wine with pretty red cherries, sweet spices and leather. The wine shows good density and richness. Ideally, it is best enjoyed over the next few years. Pergolaia is 95% Sangiovese with a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012.
These are the first wines I have tasted from Caiarossa, a young property in Maremma owned by Eric Albada Jelgersma, who also owns Chateau Giscours and Chateau du Tertre in Bordeaux.
