The 2009 Tinto “Terra De Lobos” is a Cabernet Sauvignon / Trincadeira / Castelao blend. Sweet, rather thin and fruity, a touch candied but with some saving acidity, this is a pleasant enough party wine. It has rather obvious limitations given its very modest price category, but within its context it is tasty. This is the type of wine that makes me think “jug wine without the jug” – not necessarily an insult, just a reality in terms of its straightforward and fruity demeanor. That said – note that the 2009 Casal Branco estate Tinto also reviewed this issue seems considerably more interesting and a pretty big step up – for all of one more dollar. There were 7,500 cases imported. Drink now. Importers: For all wines except Quartilho and Capoeira brands: Tri-Vin Imports, Mt. Vernon, NY; tel.
