The 1997 FA 206 (signifying that it was aged in 2-year old French Allier barriques for 6 months) is a blend of 50% Carinena (Carignan), 35.4% Garnacha (Grenache), and 10.6% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine reveals a dark ruby color, but somewhat one-dimensional, straightforward flavors presented in a medium-bodied, cleanly-made format. Subtle spice and wood notes emerge, and the fruit is fresh and lively, but the wine monochromatic, although pleasing. Drink it over the next 1-2 years.
A relatively new operation, Mas Igneus is the collaboration of several wineries. This effort from the Priorato appellation is good rather than inspiring.
