The 2009 Viré-Clessé Cuvée E. J. Thevenet is drinking beautifully at age nine, unfurling in the glass with aromas of pear, honeyed peaches and white flowers that are ripe but beautifully vibrant and defined. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny and lively, with considerable concentration and intensity, concluding with a long, pure finish. There are clearly a few grams of residual sugar here, but they are being digested with bottle age. This is just a beautiful vintage for the Thevenet family, and it demonstrates how the wines seem to gain in vitality with age.
