I have to admit that as a child I had no bigger heros than Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone, both played by the well-known actor, Fess Parker. Parker is even bigger in real life than the immense image he projected on television. Six and half feet tall, with a big frame and a flowing mane of silver/grey hair, he is a remarkable physical specimen, not to mention one of the nicest people anyone could hope to meet. Since he got into the wine business a few years ago, he has consistently turned out one of California's most delicious and reasonably priced Johannisberg Rieslings. His 1992 continues this success. This off-dry, peach and apricot-scented wine exhibits wonderful fruit, excellent purity, and a luscious, ripe finish. It is a real crowd pleaser. Jed Steele, the winemaking wizard who is fashioning marvelous wines under his own label, has been hired as a consultant and will be overlooking the winemaking at Parker's estate. This can only have positive results, as Steele knows his Syrah and Pinot Noir. Tel. (805) 688-1545
