While the 1990 Corton-Clos du Roi is backward, there is no doubting its outstanding quality. The saturated dark ruby/purple color is followed by a tight, but promising nose of jammy black-cherries and smoky new oak, and full-bodied, thick, ripe, concentrated flavors, all of which suggest 3-5 years of cellaring is warranted. The explosive finish reveals more fruit and structure, as well as grip and concentration, indicating this wine will last for 12-15 years.
Dubreuil has always made fashionable, elegant, light-colored wines known for their finesse, not to mention their precociousness and easy drinkability. I thought the 1990s to be the densest, most highly extracted wines I have tasted from this cellar.
