The 2006 Aglianico del Vulture Macarico is an imposing, brooding red bursting with the essence of dark fruit, licorice, smoke, minerals, violets and tar. This powerful, tannic Aglianico exudes tons of class and sheer personality. Ideally it is best left alone for another year or two, but it is impressive, even at this early stage. The 2006 Aglianico del Vulture Macari’ is rich and sumptuous in its dark fruit. Vibrant red cherries, flowers, tar, spices and minerals all come together beautifully in the glass. This is a decidedly fruit-driven style of Aglianico. Some varietal character is missing, but the wine’s plump, engaging personality compensates to a large extent. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014.
