From vineyards situated high above the Grand Crus, their 2006 Petit Chablis smells and tastes of ripe, fresh apricot, oregano, and chicken stock. With a good sense of stuffing, ripe, harmonious acidity, and hints of crushed stone, it is a model of what these once-denigrated sites can deliver in warm vintages, and a good value. That said, the 2005 betrayed with a bit of heat its 13.5% alcohol – something until recently unheard of in this appellation. It is also harvested by machine. Enjoy it over the next couple of years. The corresponding A.O.C. Chablis – sourced from around Poinchy – was ripe, but a bit stiff in texture and less expressive.
The Pommiers are clearly open-minded and keen on honing their skills with more than 30 acres of vines.
