The full-bodied 1989 Barbaresco displays great depth and richness, a glycerin-imbued, chewy texture, and loads of extract, glycerin, and alcohol in the blockbuster finish. Approachable now, it should easily last for 15+ years. The 1989 and 1990 Barbarescos are the two finest Barbarescos I have tasted from this traditional producer. These wines offer sumptuous levels of rich, concentrated fruit, and subtle smoky, vanillin scents (evidence of small barrique aging) that harmonize admirably with expansive aromas of black-cherries, herbs, tobacco, and spices.
How delighted I am to see Pio Cesare turn out Barbarescos and Barolos of such high quality!
