The 2005 Barbaresco is a very pretty wine that combines elements of flowers, sweet spices and dried cherries in a firm, structured style. Although the Barbaresco needs a few years to come together, it doesn’t look destined to be a long-term ager as the fruit lacks the depth and concentration that might support extended cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
Proprietor Pio Boffa clearly has a huge passion for wine. Then again, he owns some of the finest vineyards in the region. My recent tasting with Boffa included a number of older Barolos, all of which had developed very nicely.
