Although tannic, the 1998 Cote Rotie Les Grandes Places (500 cases produced) is loaded with flavor and potential. From a well-known vineyard on the Cote Brune, this wine was aged in 100% new oak, with malolactic fermentation taking place in barrel. Moreover, it was bottled unfined and unfiltered. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by aromas of blackberries, raspberries, cherries, licorice, and charcoal. Dense and full-bodied, with high tannin, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep for 15+ years.
