Blended of 54% Grenache, 24% Shiraz, 16% Mourvedre and 6% Cinsault, 2008 The Moonlight Run was sourced from vineyards ranging from 85-160 years old. Deep garnet-purple colored, it has an abundance of baked cherry and raspberry preserves aromas and an undercurrent of baking spices. Very crisp, rich and full, it has a medium level of silky tannins and a long warm berry finish. Drink it now to 2015. 500 cases were produced with no 2007 vintage of this wine was made.
With his family growing grapes since 1844, Dan Standish represents the sixth generation in this line. He started the Standish label in 1999 and Massena in 2000 with partner Jaysen Collins. None of the team here is formally trained in winemaking, with Standish learning through experience at some top wineries including Torbreck. Standish and Collins are becoming increasingly hands-off in the winery and the last few vintages they’ve been adding nothing -- no cultured yeasts, no acid and no tannins.
