The 2010 Chianti Classico Rubiolo is a gorgeous wine. Dark cherries, flowers and licorice burst from the glass in this exuberant, vibrant Chianti Classico. The 2010 boasts gorgeous purity and fabulous overall balance. Bright, floral notes add lift on the precise, mineral-driven finish. I especially like the energy here. The Rubiolo is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. Gagliole is one of the most beautiful estates in Chianti Classico. Last year, proprietors Thomas and Monica Bar acquired vineyards in Radda, which will make their first appearance in the Gagliole wines next year. Long-time consulting oenologist Stefano Chioccioli has begun to convert part of those vineyards to biodynamic farming. Unfortunately, I was unable to taste the estate’s flagship Sangiovese Pecchia.
