The estate’s 2008 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Sancta Catharina flows from the glass with layers of plump, juicy dark fruit. The Sancta Catharina has acquired early signs of tertiary development in its aromas and flavors since I last tasted it, although the tannins remain a touch on the firm side. An attractive melange of smoke, grilled herbs, cassis, menthol, flowers and crushed rocks add the final layers of nuance on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017.
