The 2009 Sancta Catharina is 30% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah and 10% Petit Verdot, aged in French oak barrels. It is a decidedly powerful, structured wine bursting with blackberry jam, violets, menthol, licorice and French oak. Though unquestionably an outstanding wine from a technical standpoint, the Sancta Catharina isn’t particularly distinguished from so many other Tuscan wines made in a similar style. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021.
