The 2001 Pinot Noir Clone 115 Indigene is initially closed aromatically, but opens to reveal gorgeous scents of sassafras, red and blackberries, spice box, damp earth, and autumnal foresty floor notes. It possesses a dense ruby/plum color in addition to a big, sweet finish with noticeable tannin as well as structure. However, it requires plenty of coaxing and aeration to reveal its full colors. This 2001 appears set to have 8-9 years of longevity. What is especially impressive about all the Melville offerings is their purity and singular personalities. Virtually everyone I talked to in Santa Barbara applauds the meticulous craftsmanship and viticultural skills of proprietor Chad Melville. His talent is obvious in these outstanding efforts.Tel.
