I was excited by the 1999 Cornas Chante Perdrix when tasted last year, but from the bottle, this wine, like too many 1999 Cornas, is dried out and hard, with a lean, astringent, tough personality, and an austerity that only a Puritan could admire. This is a good commercial example. The significant difference in quality between the outstanding 1999 northern Rhone vintage and the above average yet essentially correct 2000 is dramatically evidenced in Delas's wines.
