The 2011 Pàtrimo is a beautiful wine for sure, although it does not quite reach the soaring heights achieved by some of the past vintages. The wine is generous and powerful. It offers 14.5% alcohol that is the highest reading for this wine throughout its history. The complexity is there, but it is not as clear or delineated. Dark fruit, savory spice, tar and smoked meat rise from the bouquet. This year saw lots of rain in winter months, followed by a very hot summer, and more rain at the beginning of September. The pre-harvest period was distinguished by sharp diurnal shifts and this is evident in the balsam and herbal notes that are also on display. The wine offers soft, but velvety tannins and some toasted notes on the finish.
