Feudi di San Gregorio hits the high notes with the excellent 2010 Pàtrimo. The wine is long and elegant with finely-tuned notes of dark fruit, spice and dark mineral. These three aromatic groupings play against each other with beautifully balanced intensity. As it takes on more air in the glass, the wine begins to show balsam notes with licorice and cola. This was a classic vintage for the Campania region as it was for much of the rest of Italy. Other grapes like Aglianico were harvested early in 2010, but Merlot was actually picked a bit later than normal. The wine offers a bright point of acidity that will a go a long way to ensure its future longevity.
