There are only three (used) barrels of 2014 Volnay Santenots 1er Cru this year, due to hail damage. It has a transparent, delineated bouquet with dark cherry and pomegranate notes, quite stony, less voluptuous than many other Santenots, but nicely focused. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a keen line of acidity, perhaps showing just a touch of coarseness towards the finish (perhaps due to the hail?), but there is freshness here even if it does miss some of the weight you normally associate with this vineyard. Drink over the next 5-8 years.
