The 1988 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano possesses an opaque dark ruby/garnet color, a spicy, oaky nose filled with aromas of saddle leather, ripe red and black fruits, and smoked nuts. In the mouth, it is rich, medium to full-bodied, with good underlying structure and acidity, as well as plenty of tannin, glycerin, and extraction of fruit in the finish. Because of the soft tannins, the wine is approachable now, but it should only get better as it ages over the next 10-12 years. My first look at the three current offerings from Poliziano left a memorable impression. Importer: Bacchus Importers, Ltd., Baltimore, MD.
