The 1988 Cignale, a 95% Cabernet Sauvignon/5% Merlot blend, made from a tiny vineyard that yielded only one ton of fruit per acre, is a wine of great richness, power, and fruit. The intense bouquet of herbs and jammy cassis is followed by a full-bodied, structured, tightly knit wine with plenty of tannin, and a long, closed finish. Two to three years of cellaring is required; it should keep for 10-15 or more years. It is a potential candidate for an outstanding rating by the turn of the century.
