The 2008 Cignale (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot) is nicely balanced. Sweet floral notes and well-integrated oak lend an air of sophistication to the Cignale that isn’t always present in the Querceto wines. Raspberry jam, roses, spices and licorice are some of the notes that are woven together in this silky, refined wine. Despite its deceptively medium-bodied personality, the 2008 has more than enough underlying structure to support aging. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.
These new releases from Castello di Querceto are a bit of a mystery. The wines mostly possesses excellent fruit, richness and density, but are also heavily oaked to the extreme.
