A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the 2005 Cignale remains generous and plump, despite its ten years of age. Of these older vintages I tasted (2007, 2005 and 2003), this wine fascinated me most. The delivery is generous and layered, but the wine also offers a high level of silkiness and nuanced texture that speaks more to the quality of the wine's aging evolution than it does the vintage. It has held up nicely despite a growing season that was considered challenging in the Chianti Classico appellation.
