The 2005 Olive Hill Red Blend is made up of 71% Shiraz, 18% Mourvedre, and 11% Grenache aged in 100% French oak, 30% new. Purple-colored, it is reticent aromatically but with coaxing, scents of smoke, damp earth, blueberry, and black cherry emerge. This leads to a medium-bodied, firm, slightly compact wine albeit with ripe, sweet fruit, decent depth, and good length. Several years in the cellar will allow this wine to round out and reveal its full potential. It should drink well through 2020.
