Produced entirely in one-year-old 350-liter barrels (I've come to call these "Boillot barrels"), the gingerbread cookie-scented 2001 Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Vergelesses is a broad, rich, layered wine. Its lush, medium-bodied personality is loaded with intense flavors of spiced apples, clove, ginger, and applesauce. Armed with gorgeous depth, this expansive effort may be the finest white I've ever tasted from Savigny. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel.
