Domaine de la Charbonniere's 1995s have a more saturated color than the 1996s, cut a deeper, fuller impression on the palate, and possess more character and aromatics. One of the two most backward 1995s is the 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes. Kirsch, pepper, and spice are noticeable in the wine's aromatics. Full-bodied, with a deep ruby color, this impressive, rich wine exhibits good acidity and structure. A classic, young Provencal wine made more in a vin de garde style, it needs 2-4 years of cellaring, and should age well for 12-15 years.Proprietor Michel Maret has been turning out textbook Chateauneuf du Pape for some time, and he seems to go from strength to strength.
