The dark ruby/purple-colored 1997 Zinfandel Barricia (14.5% alcohol) offers a complex nose of dried herbs, pepper, and spice in addition to sweet, creamy-textured, black fruit flavors. It would have received a higher score except for the fact that it falls off abruptly, resulting in a flat finish. Perhaps I caught it at an unflattering stage of development, but it is undoubtedly concentrated. I would not be surprised if some readers rated it higher than I did. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
