The 2008 Clos d’Englora AV14 is their flagship wine, a blend of 38% Garnacha, 18% Carignan and a selection of Bordeaux varieties that is aged for 17 months in French and American oak, of which half are new. The nose is again, rather oaky and the gallimaufry of eight grape varieties seems to cancel each other out. The palate is rounded and smooth on the entry, but finally we see the Garnacha and Carinena imposing themselves on the wine, yet the Bordeaux varieties seem to blunt the finish when I was seeking purity and finesse. Drink 2013-2018.
Baronia del Montsant is a three-hectare estate in Cornudella de Montsant belonging to Carlos Macias and Xavier Canals. They are now also managing their neighbour’s estate, from which the first four wines originate.
