Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 St Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière from Hubert Lamy is showing some reduction on the nose, though rigorous swirling reveals subtle walnut and candle wax scents complementing the citrus fruit. You need to give it some bottle age to remedy that reduction though. The palate is well balanced with a sharp, citric, quite tangy entry. Dried orange peel and walnut come through towards the finish that feels a little clipped, but otherwise this is a sophisticated Saint Aubin that simply insists on some bottle age.
