While the 2011 vintage was extraordinarily challenging in the eastern states, it was a very good vintage here in Margaret River, despite being often tarred by that same brush. The growing season started cool and dry, however it progressed into a warm and dry summer (almost diametrically opposed to the conditions in the east), resulting in a slightly earlier harvest (one to two weeks earlier than average). As for the 2011 Chardonnay, it is round and toasty, with layers of salted butter, preserved lemon, grilled peach and white flowers. In the mouth, the wine is full and complex, although it is moving into tertiary through the finish. This is a wine that is showing, at this stage, to be far ahead of its meagre price point (around AUD $27 at the time of release).
