The 1997 Rosso Piceno Vigna Monteprandone vino da tavola (100% Montepulciano) sees new oak, but I am not sure it is better for it. It gives the wine serious ambitions, but it comes across as monolithic, with imposing tannin. It does have delicious fruit, so perhaps another six months or so of aging will give the wine more character. It should drink well for 4-5 years. The consultant for this wine is Roberto Cipresso.
