The 2007 Rosso Piceno Superiore Vigna Monteprandone is a darker, richer wine than the Piediprato. A blend of 70% Montepulciano and 30% Sangiovese, the wine reveals gorgeous length and a long, refined finish. Eighteen months in medium-size French oak barrels give the wine an additional dimension of volume that is quite attractive. This is a lovely effort from Saladini Pilastri. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015. Saladini Pilastri is an excellent source for tasty, value-priced wines. The Marche remains one of Italy’s least-known regions, and that means readers can essentially drink everything up to this producer’s top wines without spending princely sums.Importers: Michelangelo Imports, New York, NY; tel.
