One of the most stunning Rosso di Montalcinos I have ever tasted, this wine sells for one-third to one-fourth the price of the winery's Brunello di Montalcino. The 1990 reveals a dense, highly saturated, deep ruby/purple color. The nose offers up sweet smells of black fruits, minerals, herbs, and spices. In the mouth, there is massive concentration, full body, and moderate tannins in the long finish. Given the ripeness, glycerin, and richness, this wine can be drunk now, but it promises to improve for at least 7-10 years. I should also note that the label indicates this wine was produced from a single vineyard called Vigna della Fonte. Can you imagine how profound this producer's Brunello di Montalcino must be in 1990?
