The 2013 Maremma Toscana Ornello is a mid-range wine that sees Sangioveto blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The Syrah makes all the difference. In fact, this wine sports a unique label design that stands apart from the other Rocca di Frassinello labels, precisely because this is the only wine made with Syrah. Ornello is a rich and succulent expression that is redolent of dark fruit, pressed blackberry and spice. There are some savory elements as well with cured leather and barbecue smoke. This vintage is extremely precise and clean.
